2016 combo guard Andrew Jones to visit Texas

The Longhorns will soon host a key 2016 hoops target for an unofficial visit

Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns staff will have an opportunity in the coming weeks to become the frontrunners in four-star Irvin (TX) combo guard Andrew Jones’ recruitment, as the Texas native is set to take an unofficial visit to Austin September 12.

At this point, it appears to be a two-horse race to land the 6-4 guard, with the Longhorns and Arizona Wildcats as the headliners.

Jones picked up an offer from the Longhorns July 12 and made his way onto the 40 Acres for an unofficial visit August 4. But Arizona has matched Texas’ recruiting efforts with a July 14 offer and August 10 unofficial visit. Per 247 Sports, Jones is set to take his official visit to Arizona this coming Thursday (September 3), which could give Texas the final say if Jones were to make his commitment decision anytime soon.

With Texas missing out on recent elite in-state targets De’Aaron Fox and Terrance Ferguson, reeling Jones in to pair with Jacob Young in 2016 is of the utmost importance.

Jones ranks as the No. 9 player in Texas for 2016 and holds offers from Louisville, Baylor and Texas A&M, among numerous others.
