Shaka Smart’s recruiting prowess has been on display from his very first days with the Texas Longhorns, and his efforts with five-star power forward P.J. Washington will earn the Longhorns an official visit from one of 2017’s most promising prospects, per 247Sports.
"Texas," Washington told 247Sports when asked if any school would definitely make his final list. "I really like Shaka (Smart). He's telling me everyday how he would utilize my game. He tells me he would really like the opportunity to coach me and he tells me he wants me to come down on an official (visit) like every other weekend. They are definitely getting an official, they deserve one."
Along with Texas, Washington said North Carolina and Kentucky would receive official visits, and noted Michigan State "probably" will, as well.
In December, the 6'7, 225-pound Washington cut his list to 13 schools, which consists of Texas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Arizona, Michigan State, California, UCLA, Florida, Memphis, Wake Forest and Texas A&M. Washington told 247Sports that list still stands. Washington also said he doesn't think he'll take any official visits this summer before cutting his list prior to taking visits in the fall, which would seem to signify Texas will make the cut with an expected official visit looming.
Kentucky and Texas have both received unofficial visits from the Findlay Prep product and Dallas native. The Wildcats currently lead the Longhorns in his 247Sports Crystal Ball:
