Shaka Smart hit the recruiting trail on Wednesday in hopes of stocking the point guard cupboards in Austin, as his visit to Illinois ended with four-star Edwardsville floor general Mark Smith adding a Texas Longhorns offer, per multiple reports.

Texas’ 2017 class already features four-star Oak Hill Academy point guard Matt Coleman, but considering Smith is more of a natural scorer, along with the concerns at the position that have plagued the ‘Horns season, expect Smart to make a fairly significant push to add yet another competent distributor to the mix.
Though he’s not a household name, Smith’s recruitment has picked up as of late following a breakout senior season with programs such as Ohio State, Auburn and Cal showing interest.
Smith holds 10 total offers to date, including offers from Kansas State, Nebraska, DePaul, Indiana and Illinois.
At 6’4, 225 pounds, Smith ranks as the nation’s No. 105 player, the No. 25 point guard and No. 5 player in Illinois, per 247Sports Composite.
