4-star WR Joshua Moore has ‘very high’ interest in Texas

Burnt Orange Nation caught up with one of the more popular prospects at Saturday’s Nike The Opening Regional in Houston.

HOUSTON, Texas — Among a handful of headliners competing at the Nike The Opening Regional in Houston on Saturday was four-star Texas Longhorns wide receiver target Joshua Moore. One of the nation’s most coveted prospects, Moore holds offers from 54 programs and has been extended an opportunity to take his talents to nearly every major program in the country.

Until he decides to shut down his recruitment and announce his decision, Moore will continue to fit time to talk to coaches and research schools around his high school workload and duties for Yoakum’s basketball team.

“It’s getting very hectic,” Moore told Burnt Orange Nation of the recruiting process. “It’s kind of hard to manage all of it, but at the same time it’s all a blessing.”

Despite the increasingly jam-packed schedule and already owning a reputation as one of 2018’s premier talents, Moore made time for the two-hour trip to Houston for the Nike Opening Regional.

Why?

“Just to show that [he’s one of the best in the nation],” Moore said of why he wanted to compete in Houston. “To show why I’m ranked how I’m ranked and why I have all these offers. Competing against these big-time guys like this will just help me out.”

Moore’s brother Jordan, who’s already committed to Texas A&M, was competing at the event, as well. While there’s still a possibility that Moore follows his brother to College Station, that continued pairing is beginning to seem less and less likely.

“Everybody thinks I’m going to coming to A&M just because of my brother,” Moore said. “If I commit to A&M, it won’t be because of my brother. It’s because I feel it’s the best decision for me. But right now, it’s an 85 percent chance we’ll part ways.”

The parting process began the very next day, as Moore announced Sunday evening that he’ll be leaving Yoakum to conclude his high school career at Florida’s IMG Academy.

When asked of the schools recruiting him the hardest, Moore made no note of his brother’s Aggies, but mentioned Ole Miss, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Michigan.

As far as his interest in Texas, Moore said it’s, “Very high. Very high.”

“It’s been crazy,” Moore said of his contact with the Longhorns staff. “They’ve been by my school like five times.”

In a recruitment that features no shortage of elite competition for Moore’s services, the four-star receiver touched on the Longhorns and Crimson Tide.

“I love both of those schools, man. Relationship-wise, it’s there. I’ve built so many relationships on the staff with both of those schools, it’s crazy.”

Moore, ranked as the nation’s No. 60 player and No. 8 wide receiver, per 247Sports Composite, will be in Austin Feb. 25 for Texas junior day.
