One of the Tom Herman’s top 2018 targets will be on campus next week, as four-star Houston Heights cornerback Jalen Green will unofficially visit the Forty Acres on March 25, according to Horns247.
An elite prospect by all accounts, if five-star Houston Lamar cornerback Anthony Cook is the top cornerback in the state, Green is essentially 1B, evident in his Nike The Opening Finals invitation following an impressive showing in Houston.
A physically imposing defender, Green has quickly become one of the more sought after defensive back prospects in the nation. To date, Green holds 36 offers, including invitations from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma and Oregon, among others.
If Texas wants to try and move its way up his list later this month, Herman and his staff will need to do a phenomenal job on selling Green on the academic side of things, as Green recently stressed to Burnt Orange Nation the importance of education in his decision. He’s looking to major in health science.
As far as his capabilities on the field, regardless of where he lands, it would be a surprise if he doesn’t become a year-one contributor. The physicality, instincts and confidence are already well in place, which should only add further polish throughout his senior season.
If Herman wants to keep the best talent in state and cultivate a statement 2018 class, Green is one of the few must-land targets.
At 6’1, 171 pounds, Green ranks as the nation’s No. 75 player, No. 11 cornerback and the No. 8 player in Texas, per 247Sports Composite.
