Following Sunday’s Nike The Opening regional in Frisco, three-star Tulsa Union safety Patrick Fields announced his commitment to Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners, choosing the in-state favorite over the Texas Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs.
Fields’ decision to remain home doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The Sooners have long been considered the favorite in Fields’ recruitment and although Tom Herman and the Longhorns were able to apply pressure with a strong Junior Day visit, only being involved in Fields’ recruitment since January didn’t help the ‘Horns chances with luring the Oklahoma native out of state.
Fortunately for Texas, Fields was never really considered a priority, considering prospects such as BJ Foster, Leon O’Neal Jr. and Atanza Vongor are each regarded as better additions. That said, with Vongor said to choose between Texas, Baylor and TCU Mar. 11, expect the staff to prioritize the South Grand Prairie prospect throughout the next week.
Along with his three finalists, Fields also holds offers from Arkansas, Notre Dame, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Tulsa and Vanderbilt.
Fields ranks as the nation’s No. 583 player, No. 51 safety and the No. 9 player in Oklahoma, per 247Sports Composite.
