Upwards of 40 Texas Longhorns targets were on the Forty Acres this weekend for Saturday’s Orange-White spring game and the consensus opinion reflected a very positive experience.
Burnt Orange Nation caught up with a few recruits that were in attendance to get their take on the game, atmosphere and visit as a whole.
Taye Barber - 3-star WR - Cy Springs
“It was a great spring game and also a great visit as usual! Also an unbelievable atmosphere and energy. Wish I could go put on a jersey and play right now.”
Prudy Calderon - 3-star S - San Marcos
“The atmosphere was upbeat as always but there just felt like there was a sense of urgency in the entire team’s step from the players to the coaches. The whole deal was fun to watch.”
- Calderon said he’s looking forward to building a relationship with the coaching staff.
Malik Jackson - WR - Lufkin
“It was a great experience and just seeing the trophies when I walked in and how intense the spring game was made me feel like it's the real deal there. I also loved the field but I didn't get to talk to the coaches or get to go to the workout facilities or anything but it was a great campus and a great experience but hopefully I can get back up there and see those things that I missed.”
“Me and coach Warehime have a pretty good relationship we've been staying in contact with each other.”
Kardell Thomas - 4-star OG - Southern University Lab School (La.) - LSU commit (2019)
“The game was good I liked the atmosphere the fans knew who I was so it felt like home a little and the visit was great. The coaches welcomed me with open arms soon as I pulled up on campus.”
“I had a one on one with Coach Herman. We talked about the doors that will open for me if I came to Texas and he had some great points.”
- Thomas said he’s still considering Texas heavily and will visit Austin again this summer for a camp.
Andrew Coker - 3-star OT - Katy Taylor (2019)
“It was a great atmosphere even the fans were so supportive and positive.”
- Coker said he wasn’t able to meet with the staff. He had to leave the spring game early.
Breylon Garcia - WDE - Lufkin (2019)
“I have family in Austin, so I make frequent visits down there, but this was my first time going to the stadium. The atmosphere was great there with all of the fans. My uncle (Courtnee Garcia) played there from 99-02 so I've been a Texas fan almost my whole life, and I could see my self going there. Also with all of the legends that have came through the program caught my eye as well.”
Thomas Gordon - TE - Houston Strake Jesuit (2019)
“Texas was really impressive today. The environment and fans seemed very excited and upbeat. They way they use their tight ends is very intriguing for a tight end like me. One of my top schools for sure.”
“I talked to coach Meekins and he is gonna be at my school on Friday and coach Naivar will also check me out since he is my area recruiter. They said they are gonna take recruiting really slow with tight ends because they can't afford to miss on that position.”
