4-star OLB Amari Gainer names Texas in Top 6

The high-level Florida product is likely to visit the Forty Acres before he makes his decision.

Tallahassee Lawton Chiles outside linebacker Amari Gainer trimmed his recruitment to six finalists on Sunday morning and the Texas Longhorns survived the cut.

Along with the Longhorns, Gainer also named UCLA, Alabama, Auburn, Miami and the hometown favorites, Florida State. Auburn offered Gainer just yesterday.

A four-star prospect, Gainer held 20 total offers before trimming things down and focusing on just six schools. Programs such as Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Louisville and Oregon were among those that didn’t survive Gainer’s cut. He also had interest from numerous Group of 5 schools.

As expected, it will be a tall task for any program, even Alabama, to lure Gainer away from the Seminoles backyard in Tallahassee, where he’s already taken numerous unofficial visits. Gainer did say, though, that he will take each of his five official visits, which seems likely to be utilized on Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Miami and UCLA.

Texas has already flipped one Florida native and Florida State pledge in four-star athlete Justin Watkins so if Tom Herman is able to ultimately secure an official visit — while he seems likely to remain in the Sunshine State — there’s no telling what may happen and how that visit may impact his recruitment.

The staff continues to let Gainer know he’s a priority, even if it’s through social media.

At 6’2.5, 204 pounds, Gainer ranks as the nation’s No. 294 player, No. 22 outside linebacker and the No. 48 player in Florida, per 247Sports Composite.
