There was a time when Tom Herman’s Texas Longhorns were tied with the Texas A&M Aggies as the frontrunners in Fort Bend Marshall offensive guard Barton Clement’s recruitment.
That’s no longer the case.
While the Aggies are still firmly in the mix down the stretch, as is Oklahoma, Florida has emerged as the new team to beat. As far as his contact current contact with with the Longhorns is concerned; well, “it’s dying down,” Clement told Burnt Orange Nation.
With Texas now seemingly leaving Clement in the shade, his eyes are wide open to what the Gators are offering in The Sunshine State.
“I did some research on them and I noticed that they’re a really high academic school and they’re one of the best chemical engineering schools in the country,” Clement said of why his interest in Florida is now so high. “On top of that, they’re one of the major powerhouse teams in football.”
Clement isn’t sure of exactly when he’ll commit, but he’s looking to shut things down at some point this summer. With the four-star lineman’s recruitment slowly coming to a close, Clement said the recruiting process does get overwhelming, but he’s enjoyed being in the spotlight.
When that time does come for Clement to announce his commitment, whether it’s in the next couple weeks or couple months, what will he need to see from a program to earn his signature?
“Mainly the atmosphere and how everybody interacts with each other.”
