Just hours after the Texas Longhorns picked up a commitment from four-star Louisville Trinity (Ky.) slot wide receiver Rondale Moore, Justin Watkins, the Longhorns first 2018 pledge, has announced his decommitment.

A four-star prospect out of Clermont East Ridge (Fla.), Watkins flipped from Florida State to Texas during his visit in February for the Longhorns junior day. Since then, Watkins has stated that he’ll continue taking visits to a variety of programs, including LSU, which he initially committed to before decommitting and later siding the the home-state Seminoles.
It was clear then that Watkins was going to be difficult to keep on board until National Signing Day, and as things between Moore and Texas began to heat up throughout the past week, it was becoming expected that Watkins would decommit from yet another Power 5 program.
With Watkins now out of the mix, Texas may intensify its push for Bellaire Episcopal Jaylen Waddle, although he’s made it clear he hopes to be the only slot receiver take in his class and provides much of the same skill set as Moore.
Texas’ 2018 class now consists of 11 total pledges.
