Elite PG Quentin Grimes names Texas in Top 7

New, comments

The ‘Horns remain in the mix with a priority prospect, but Smart and his staff have their work cut out for them going forward.

The Woodlands point guard Quentin Grimes trimmed his list of potential suitors to seven finalists on Thursday and the Longhorns remain in the mix for the state’s top-ranked player, along with Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona, Marquette, Baylor and Texas A&M

A five-star floor general from College Station, Grimes holds 13 total offers and his cut leaves programs including Tennessee, Oklahoma, Miami and Wake Forest on the outside looking in.

A priority prospect for the ‘Horns, the staff has visited Grimes and various occasions and was recently in attendance to watch the in-state star perform at a Las Vegas camp. Grimes said Texas receive one of his official visits, along with Kansas and Arizona.

In any case, considering some college basketball blue bloods remain in the mix, Texas will face no shortage of competing in hopes of not only keeping Grimes in-state, but luring him to Austin. That said, Smart’s track record of doing so with prospects such as Jarrett Allen, Matt Coleman and Mohamed Bamba indicate that this is a battle Texas will surely have some traction in.

As in stands, though, Bill Self and the Jayhawks are considered the favorite, holding all seven of Grimes’ Crystal Ball projections. Grimes mother attended Kansas, although he said that’s not a factor.

A 6’4, 175-pound prospect, Grimes is ranked as the nation’s No. 21 player, No. 5 point guard and the No. 1 player in Texas, per 247Sports Composite.
