For the first time in nearly a full decade, the Texas Longhorns are back in the Big 12 Championship game, and will be going back to battle with the Oklahoma Sooners for the second time this season. The stakes are indeed high with potential playoff implications, New Years Six bowl placement, and of course, overall bragging rights each at stake. Seeing that Texas and Oklahoma haven’t been pitted against each other twice in the same season since 1903, Saturday’s game will be more than a treat for college football fans around the country.
Many top Texas and Oklahoma targets, potential prospects, and recruits on the rise will be tuning in. BON was able to catch up with a few of them and get their thoughts and predictions.
2020 — Zach Evans — 5-star RB — North Shore: “I’m checking out that line from BOTH teams. I’m also checking to see how involved the running backs are in the game. This is going to come down to the trenches and coaching though. It’ll show who’s more disciplined and who learned from the last game and applied it to getting ready for this game. It should be fun.”
2019 — Noah Cain – 4-star RB – IMG Academy: “Think it’s going to be another high scoring game and I’m taking Texas 50-47.”
2019 — Marcus Banks – 4-star CB – Spring Dekaney: “It’s going to be a good game because it’s the Red River Rivalry and for the Big 12 championship, that only makes it better. The fact that it is going to be a “revenge” game for Oklahoma should make it an intense game. I think Oklahoma gets the revenge they needed with a score of 45-35. OU wins.”
2020 — Troy Omeire – 4-star WR – Fort Bend Austin: “Going to be a shootout. I think the winner is going to win by a touchdown or a field goal. I don’t know who’s going to win, but the team that wants it the most will.”
2020 — Damieon George – 4-star OT – North Shore: “In this game I will look to see who will have the most dominate offensive line and who will be straight nasty and physical in the trenches. I think it will be a close game, but Oklahoma will come out with the dub.”
2020 — Darius Snow – 4-star S – Hebron: “I’m looking forward to it. It’s always fun to see a rematch. I think Texas will win in a close one.”
2020 — Alec Bryant – 4-star DE – Shadow Creek: “It’s going to be a high scoring game and I got OU.”
2020 — Bryson Washington – 4-star S – C.E. King: “I think it’s going to be a crazy jam-packed game on both sides of the ball. I know OU is going to bring it this time and I know UT is not going home without another win so this is going to be a good game.”
2020 — Myles Slusher – 4-star CB – Broken Arrow (Okla.): “I’m looking forward to the intensity of the game. I mean, it’s going to be a lot of emotion in the game so it should be fun to watch. I think it will be a close game until the end. It is one of the biggest rivalries, if not the biggest. It’s going to be a good game though.”
2020 — Kelvontay Dixon – 3-star ATH – Carthage: “I’m looking forward to a great game and a great atmosphere. My prediction is Texas will win.”
2020 — Jake Majors – 3-star OT — Prosper: “I can’t wait to see part two of the Triple R between these two powerhouses. It’s been a tradition to watch this game since I was young so it’ll be exciting. It should be another dog fight like it was the first go around, so I think it’ll come down to the end.”
2020 — Brennon Scott – 4-star OLB – Bishop Dunne: “I feel like it will be a close game again. It’ll probably come down to whoever has the ball last. I expect Oklahoma to use that loss as some fire and come out slinging the ball. Texas is going to probably come back and run it up the same. It’s more likely going to come down to which defense can make a huge stop. I have Oklahoma winning by a touchdown.”
2020 — Jerrin Thompson – 4-star S — Lufkin: “With the season OU had, I think they will win at the end of four quarters.”
2021 — Reuben Fatheree – 4-star OT – Richmond Foster: “I want to see the battle in the trenches. I bet the ground game is going to be fun to watch. I think the last team with the ball will win.”
2021 — Donovan Jackson – 4-star OT – Bellaire Episcopal: “I’m most looking forward to see if Texas can overcome an angry Oklahoma team. From experience, I know that it’s hard to beat the same teams twice in one year, so I’m interested to see how it will turn out.”
2021 — Hayden Conner – 4-star OT – Katy Taylor: “I think it’s awesome that UT has a chance to be Big 12 champions. The last game was unbelievable and I don’t think this one will disappoint either. No prediction on the game just excited about watching it.”
2021 — JoJo Earle – Unranked WR – Aledo: “What I look forward to is seeing Lil’Jordan and Kyler show out, but I think that OU won’t let Texas beat them twice. OU will come out on top.”
2021 — Cody Jackson – Unranked WR/ATH – Richmond Foster: “Looking forward to a great game and CeeDee Lamb having a career high game! OU pulling it out by 10.”
2021 — Tunmise Adeleye — Unranked SDE — Katy Tompkins: “Looking forward to seeing if Texas can stop Oklahoma’s high octane offense enough in order to win the game. Defense isn’t really something that’s harped upon in the Big 12, but it’s going to be needed in order to beat Oklahoma. I’ve got Texas winning 56-52”
2021 — Bryce Foster — Unranked OT — Katy Taylor: ”I’m excited to see whether the game is going to be high scoring or not. It’s a great matchup and i’m so excited to watch the game. But i’m gonna say Texas 24-21”
2022 — Bryce Anderson – Unranked ATH – Beaumont West Brook: “I’m looking forward to seeing how OU will respond from the loss in the previous game & to see if Texas will come out with the same explosiveness they had the first game. I’m also looking forward to a shootout, and a lot of spectacular plays made by big time players from both teams. I’m going to have go with OU. My prediction of the score is 45-42.”
2022 — Armani Winfield – Unranked WR — Lewisville: “I think OU is going to come out on top in this game between Texas. People say it’s hard to beat a team twice. Both teams have a great offense with great talent but I think the score will be 52-58, OU. Kyler Murray runs the offense too well to be stopped.”
2022 — Bert Emanuel Jr. – Unranked QB – Fort Bend Ridge Point: “I’m looking forward to OU winning the game and Kyler Murray going off throwing about three touchdowns and rushing for one. Also, I’m looking forward to seeing CeeDee Lamb going off.”
2022 — Kam Dewberry – Unranked OL — Atascocita: “I am looking forward to this game because it’s the big rematch. And you know like I do, nobody messes with Texas. I’m rocking with UT all the way, 34-28.”
2022 — Isaiah Broadway — Unranked RB — Hebron: “I’m definitely looking forward to the big plays and crucial moments during the game. I’m predicting a game like last time, high scoring. 45-51, OU”
