The Texas Longhorns haven’t been shy in recruiting elite Louisiana talent under Tom Herman and that was evident yet again on Wednesday, with an offer going out to 2020 New Orleans (La.) Warren Easton running back Ashaad Clayton.
Despite there still being plenty of time in Clayton’s recruitment, the Longhorns jumped into the mix at a point in time in which Texas is already tasked with playing catch-up. With Clayton’s offer list now up to a dozen, LSU, Georgia, Auburn and even Kansas are among those standing out early. Now surprisingly, LSU is considered the favorite for the home-grown talent with all six of his Crystal Ball projections to date.
Ranked as the No. 175 player in the nation, per 247Sports, Clayton is now one of five 2020 running back prospects with a Texas offer. Top-ranked running back and Houston North Shore product Zachary Evans remains the priority at the position, but expect the Longhorns to do their due diligence in gauging Clayton’s interest in crossing state lines and heading to Texas.
A 6-foot, 184-pound prospect, Clayton is ranked as the nation’s No. 16 running back prospect and as the No. 5 player in Louisiana.
