4-star SG Donovan Williams names Longhorns in final 5, schedules Texas OV

The Longhorns are now a finalist for Donovan Williams and could have a key connection in their corner.

Shaka Smart’s program is one of just five still standing in the mix with Missouri City Elkins shooting guard Donovan Williams.

On Monday morning, the four-star Houston-area product announced his final five and the Texas Longhorns are still an option, alongside Arizona State, Texas A&M, Miami, and Georgia.

“The staff and rich tradition is really what drew me to Texas and there is playing time for me right when I step onto campus, that is if I earn it,” Williams told Rivals’ Corey Evans of why Texas survived his cut.

In addition to announcing his final five schools, Williams has also scheduled official visits to each. Williams will kick off his official visit tour at Arizona State on Aug. 31, followed by Texas on Sept. 7, Texas A&M on Sept. 14, Miami on Sept. 21, and lastly, Georgia on Sept. 28.

A decision will likely come shortly thereafter.

The tie in Texas’ favor here is with assistant coach Jai Lucas. Williams has long trained with Houston-area icon and Jai’s father, John Lucas. With that key connection in mind, it’s unsurprising that of Williams’ five finalists, only Texas has Crystal Ball projections placed. Given his proximity, expect Texas A&M to make Williams’ recruitment especially interesting as it enters the final stretch.

A versatile, two-way wing, Williams averaged 13.2 points per game as a junior. At 6’5, 180 pounds, he’s ranked as the nation’s No. 100 overall player, No. 15 shooting guard, and as the No. 7 player in Texas, per the 247Sports Composite.
