Texas already has a pair of outside linebackers on board with its 2019 class, but the Longhorns are in the market for more talent at the position.
On Wednesday, Texas put an offer on the table for Kuony Deng, the nation’s top-ranked JUCO outside linebacker, he announced on Twitter.

Deng’s Texas offer was announced just moments after he announced an offer from UCLA.
A four-star product out of Independence C.C., the program starred on Netflix’s series ‘Last Chance U,’ Deng is now up to 14 total offers with Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Colorado, Maryland, and Florida Atlantic among those in the mix.
The Hokies currently hold each of Deng’s four Crystal Ball projections, although his stock continuing to rise could make things a bit more interesting than expected.
Thus far, including Deng, Texas has offers out to 12 outside linebackers. Those invitations have netted commitments from four-star California product De’Gabriel Floyd and three-star Florida native Marcus Tillman Jr., but Deng’s offer indicates Texas is intrigued with a potential immediate impact player with college-level experience.
Standing at 6’6, 235 pounds with a verified 4.6 40-yard dash time, Deng comes from a track and basketball background, as evident with his 49.30 time in the 400 meters and his honors as the 2016 Virginia 4A basketball Player of the Year after averaging 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks per game.
Following his high school playing days, Deng suited up to play football for the Virginia Military institute before transferring to Independence C.C. in January, where he’ll now likely be featured on Season 4 of ‘Last Chance U.’
Deng is ranked as the nation’s No. 9 JUCO prospect, and as the top-ranked JUCO outside linebacker, per the 247Sorts Composite.
