The Texas Longhorns cemented the #fUTure19 recruiting class on Wednesday, locking in Tom Herman’s second full class (third overall) as the program prepares to shift its focus to the upcoming spring practice period.
The Longhorns officially welcome two new recruits as the program received the final national letters of intent on Wednesday, including highly the highly sought after and much discussed Bru McCoy, who recently transferred USC when Kliff Kingsbury left the Trojans coaching staff to take the job as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. The Longhorns also signed longtime pledge Javonne Shepherd, a four-star offensive tackle out of Houston North Forest, who officially visited Texas A&M, Georgia, and Alabama throughout the past month.
McCoy and Shepherd now cap an impressive class that ranks No.3 nationally, per the 247Sports Composite, with most of the Longhorns’ signings coming on Early Signing Day.
Tom Herman says that RB signee Derrian Brown is still undergoing tests in the hospital to determine his condition. He's improving every day and moving his extremities. He's alert and was taken off a ventilator today, so he's breathing on his own.

Tom Herman said OL Patrick Hudson is taking some time away from the team to "figure out what he wants to do, weigh all his options. Possibility of returning to program is still on the table."

Herman: "Proud of the fact that in the last two years, each year we have finished in the bottom six in the country as far as offers extended. We're very proud to say when a young man gets an offer from Texas, it does mean something." #HookEm

.@CoachTomHerman : "Super excited to add @JavonneShepherd to our family. One signee on signing day seems a little weird. Again, another testament to the relationships that Coach Meekins and Coach Hand developed with him and his family and his support system." #HookEm pic.twitter.com/IUeIBEyUAK

Herman on Shepherd: He’s got a size-to-athleticism ratio that we probably don’t even currently have on our roster right now.

Herman on WR Bru McCoy, said, "I applaud Bru on his courageousness for saying, 'This is not where his heart is.' " Herman unsure on whether he'll be eligible for next year.

Herman on whether he'll go get a grad transfer RB: "It’s going to have to be the right guy because we feel good about the experience in that room."

"Derrian Brown playing football again is certainly not off the table."

Texas in general has confidence in the RB room, so the Horns may not pursue a grad transfer at the position again. Tom Herman says that Jordan Whittington will receive a lot of work at RB this spring.
On makeup of his class, Herman said, "I'll say it till I'm blue in the face. If we can sign 25 kids from state of Texas who can help us win championships, that's nirvana."
