For just the third time throughout the Tom Herman era at Texas, the Longhorns are looking to Washington D.C. for a top-tier talent. The latest of the few instances came on Friday morning, as Texas put an offer on the table for Mekhail Sherman, a five-star outside linebacker prospect out of St. John’s College High School.

Dubbed as the nation’s second-best outside linebacker, per the 247Sports Composite, Sherman is one of the premier prospects in the 2020 class, and that’s evident in his expansive offer list, which now features 33 programs. Being the latest to offer, the Longhorns join the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma in pursuit of his services.
The Buckeyes are currently considered to be the team to beat, owning each of his three Crystal Ball projections.
The challenge for Texas and others will be to remain in the mix after what Sherman seemingly teased will be a top seven list set to release during the summer.
A two-way talent who also plays running back — unsurprisingly considering he registered a 4.53 40-yard dash — Sherman is ranked as the No. 15 player in the nation. He’s now just the fifth outside linebacker prospect to notch an offer from the Longhorns.
