Tom Herman and his staff are after an intriguing offensive weapon that just so happens to be in their own backyard.
On Thursday evening, 2021 Lake Travis tight end Lake McRee was on the receiving end of a Texas Longhorns offer, just days after the coaching staff dropped in to watch his spring practice.
McRee has been on a hot-streak within his recruitment here of late and is shaping up to be one of the state’s more highly sought after tight ends in his class. The rising prospect has earned nine early offers from programs like Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, TCU, with the Longhorns being his latest invitation, just weeks after he visited Austin for the Orange-White game.
The Lake Travis pipeline that Herman and company have stressed in their short years being in Austin can’t go unnoticed, with current Longhorns tight end Cade Brewer being a former standout there and four-star verbal pledge Hudson Card presently existing as the signal caller going into his senior season.
As a sophomore, McRee hauled in 17 receptions for 274 yards and two touchdowns.
The 6’5, 205 pounder is the second prospect at his position to land an offer from the Horns in the 2021 cycle, next to Spring Dekaney recruit Var’Keyes Gumms.
McRee is currently unranked at the moment.
