As the Texas continues to search for its first pledge on the defensive side of the ball, the Longhorns are gearing up to host one of the nation’s premier safety prospects, as Tucson (Az.) Salpointe Catholic is set to unofficially visit the Forty Acres this weekend.

One of just four uncommitted safety prospects on Texas’ big board, alongside a trio of in-state talents in Duncanville’s Chris Thompson Jr., Houston C.E. King star Bryson Washington, and Pearland Shadow Creek product Xavion Alford, Ransom has held a Longhorns offer since early February. However, this weekend will mark his first trip to Texas.
Ranked as the a top-65 talent nationally and as the No. 4 safety in his class, per the 247Sports Composite, Ransom is a versatile talent who excels in all three phases of the game. In addition to Ransom totaling 82 tackles, six interceptions and eight pass deflections as a junior, the 6’2, 183-pound prospect hauled in 27 receptions for 625 yards and six scores.
He also amassed upwards of 450 yards as a returner.
To this point, Ransom has already utilized two of his official tours on trips to Oklahoma and LSU on April 12 and April 26, respectively, and he has two others scheduled to Notre Dame on June 8 and Ohio State on June 21.
With one final official visit remaining, this weekend may very well determine whether or not Ransom soon returns to Austin on Texas’ dime, which would only help in another key recruitment, as Ransom is teammates with five-star Texas running back target Bijan Robinson, who’s scheduled to officially visit the Forty Acres on June 21.
