On Thursday evening, the Texas Longhorns jumped into the mix with one of the nation’s truly elite 2021 prospects, as Tom Herman’s program put an offer on the table for Matthews (N.C.) Weddington all-purpose back, his team’s Twitter account announced.

The five-star talent’s offer list now features 26 programs, with Texas joining Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Ohio State in pursuit of his services, just to name a few.

His only Crystal Ball pick to date favors NC State, where he unofficially visited last weekend.

Currently ranked as the nation’s No. 1 all-purpose back and No. 21 player nationally, per the 247Sports Composite, the 5’11, 198-pound Shipley is credited with a verified 4.46 40-yard dash, a 4.21-second shuttle and a 36-30-inch vertical leap.

Last season, he put those efforts on display in the form of 206 attempts for 1,417 yards and 19 touchdowns to go along with 28 receptions for 393 yards and six scores.

Shipley becomes just the first 2021 all-purpose back to add an offer from the Longhorns, though Texas has previously offer four true running backs, including top-ranked prospect and in-state product Camar Wheaton.
